Experiencing a tyre blowout or sudden puncture at speed is a highly stressful event. Knowing how to react safely can protect you and other motorists. Here is our step-by-step guide.
1. Control the Vehicle
Grip the steering wheel firmly. Avoid hitting the brakes hard, as this can cause the vehicle to pull severely. Allow the car to slow down naturally by lifting off the accelerator, and gently guide the car toward the hard shoulder or a safe layby.
2. Safely Station Your Vehicle
Park as far away from active traffic lanes as possible. Turn on your hazard warning lights. If you have a warning triangle, place it at least 45 meters behind the car on standard roads (never on motorways).
3. Exit and Call for Help
Have all passengers exit the vehicle through the doors facing away from the active traffic. Stand behind motorway safety barriers. Call Newport Tyres or breakdown services for rapid assistance.
